You Need to Binge-Watch This!

So, this weekend i stumbled upon a web series which i was honestly not very committedly watching, i stumbled upon the web series called, " Perfect Family" which i saw endless number of reels on my feed and i thought why not jump on it and watch the show.

So i began with very less expectations, i was ready for it only being a social media buzz, but guess what , it turned out more than that! it was a really an eye opening show.

Ok, so enough of the build-up, so coming straight to the point, the plot around which the story revolves is actually about Mental Health and Therapy taboo.

So we have this typical Delhi joint family called the Karkaria Family who owns a sweet shop from generations, the family looks very happy and togather on the surface as they all live togather, but each character goes through their own battle of mental issues.

The point of problem begins with the grand-daughter of the family whose name is Daani, she is a little girl of 11 year old, she is a Highly Sensitive Child, as stated by the school councellor so she gets scared and gets panic attacks when people around her shout and fight, so there's this one trigering incident where Daani's PT teacher forces her to run in the feild, she tries and tries get's all panicked and she falls down, her image blurs and she is now struggling to breath, thus, Daani's family is called and the school councellor advises them to go for family therapy.

Initially this whole thing was difficult to digest by the family members as well as them being a middle class family, the idea of a therapy means something is not right with their minds, but the school principal kept a condition, if the family will not bring a certificate from the councellor that the Karkaria family is mentally fit and keeps a positive environment for their daughter at home , then they will be forced to send Daani away from school.

So, now, in order to keep Daani in school, the family starts their sessions of family therapy.

In the beginning, they all lie, do not open-up with the councellor, then when she catches them red handed, they start opening up, that is where the story opens up in layers, where each character has a back story of why they behave the way they behave, we come to know that each family member has an unhealthy coping mechanisms, each have their own fears, and how beautifully it is opening up on the screen is a feast to watch.

If i talk about the narration of the story, the narration goes as each session with the therapist is each chapter of the story, moving back and froth in past and present, then we also see few conflicting events in the present and after that how the characters reacted with the therapist.

Overall, the story just slaps hard when you see how vulnerable and open the family members become to each other as the sessions progresses, also it ends on a note that everyone is not healed totally, still the issues recurred but now i guess they know better how to handle it, although how they deal with that, it is not shown in the end, that is my clue as a viewer that there might be a part-2 of this story waiting.
